When you’re in charge of complex topography and geostrata, PLAXIS 3D is the software tool to perform accurate three-dimensional deformation and stability analysis in geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics.
Official Representative:
Modeling and analysis of geotechnical engineering projects with 3D finite element analysis
Engineering companies and institutions in the civil and geotechnical engineering sector rely on PLAXIS 3D’s range of CAD-like design features and extrusion, intersection, combination and matrix functions for geotechnical solutions in infrastructure projects. Advanced options consider the displacement or coupling of flow deformation through consolidation. The main options analyze the effects of ground vibrations, such as earthquakes and moving traffic loads. The application also simulates complex hydrological conditions through time-dependent variations of water levels or flow functions for saturated and unsaturated soil conditions.
Its secure solutions deserve reliable computing that can be easily shared with project teams and stakeholders. Tackle the most common or complex challenges with confidence with PLAXIS’ rich functionality, robust computing and intuitive digital workflows.
PLAXIS is available in three flexible options, each adapted to the different geotechnical analysis needs of any company. More information about PLAXIS 3D, PLAXIS 3D Advanced and PLAXIS 3D Ultimate can be found in our datasheet.
Product levels
PLAXIS 3D: PLAXIS 3D includes the most essential functionality for performing everyday deformation and safety analysis for soil and rock. This comprehensive software for project development and analysis of soil, rock and associated structures facilitates 3D modeling.
PLAXIS 3D Advanced: PLAXIS 3D Advanced covers everything included in PLAXIS 3D, plus enhancements to the technical design functionalities with more advanced features and material models. You can consider drag or coupling of flow and deformation through consolidation analysis. In addition, you can solve problems faster than with PLAXIS 3D by using the multi-core calculation manager.
PLAXIS 3D Ultimate: extend the capabilities of PLAXIS 3D Advanced to analyze the effects of ground vibrations, such as earthquakes and the movement of traffic loads. You can also simulate hydrological conditions through time-dependent variations of water levels or flow functions at model boundaries as well as at ground boundaries.
PLAXIS 3D WorkSuite: PLAXIS 3D WorkSuite includes everything you get with PLAXIS 3D Ultimate, plus PLAXIS 3D LE for slope stability analysis in limit equilibrium and PLAXIS Designer to help you create conceptual 3D models.
Useful Information
Processor
Required: Dual Core CPU
Recommended: Quad Core CPU
Operating System
Windows 10 or Windows 11
Memory
Recommended: minimum 8 GB
Large projects may require more memory
Disk space
Minimum 2 GB of free space on the WindowsTEMP directory partition and 2 GB of free space on the partition for saving projects. Large projects can require much more space on both partitions.
For best performance, the TEMP directory and the project directory should be on the same partition.
Monitor
Video card
Required: 256 MB GPU with OpenGL 3.3
Bentley does not recommend the use of integrated video cards. We recommend a dedicated GPU from nVidia’s GeForce and Quadro lines with at least 128-bit bus and 1 GB of RAM (or an equivalent solution from ATI/AMD).
Video
Mandatory: 1024 x 768 pixels, 32-bit color palette. Recommended: 1920 x 1080 pixels, 32-bit color palette
Plaxis is a computer application that performs Finite Element Analyses in the field of geotechnical engineering, including deformation, stability and water flow. The name PLAXIS comes from plastic (plastic) and AXISymmetry (axisymmetry), indicating the geometric types dealt with in the software application’s original code.
