Basic Principles of Numerical Modeling of Flow and Transport of Contaminants in Groundwater (in Portuguese)

If you have the basics of groundwater, but haven’t yet had the opportunity to work with mathematical modeling, in this free 8-hour course you will have the opportunity to understand the main steps for preparing or revising a numerical model of flow and contaminant transport. See what parameters are required, different types of boundary conditions, model calibration, the most common numerical solution methods, and presentation of results.

Two of the most widely used software packages on the market will be presented: FEFLOW and Visual MODFLOW Flex to illustrate their applications. This course is ideal for professionals and students looking to begin their knowledge and skills in groundwater modeling.

Who will be teaching the course?

The instructor will be renowned hydrogeologist Nilson Guiguer, Ph.

Renowned instructor and leading expert in the field, with over 30 years of practical experience.

Civil Engineer, Master in Hydraulics and Hydrology from USP, Ph.D. in Geology (specialty Hydrogeology) from the University of Waterloo. Founder of Waterloo Hydrogeologic in Canada, later sold to Schlumberger, where he served as Vice President and Global Marketing Director of the Schlumberger Water Services division. He was Managing Director of the multinational DHI, The Water Experts, a professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, and is currently President and Modeling Partner of Water Services and Technologies.

A recognized expert in groundwater simulation, he is the author of several groundwater software packages used worldwide, such as Visual MODFLOW, Flowpath and Airflow/SVE, as well as data interpretation and visualization packages such as Hydro GeoAnalyst, Visual PoΓ§os and SIAGAS Web. He was also responsible for bringing FEFLOW from German to English and from Unix to Windows.

The author of several scientific papers, he received the John Helms Award in 2000 from the National Ground Water Association (NGWA) in the United States, an award given annually to those who contribute most to the advancement of science in the field of groundwater.

He has extensive experience in the mining and oil and gas industries, as well as in integrated water resources management, actively involved in the execution and management of modeling projects.
