On April 2, 2025, Water Services and Technologies, in partnership with the Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), hosted the Innovation and Water Governance in Mining Workshop in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The event brought together more than 100 professionals from the mining sector to discuss data-driven water management, digital solutions, and best practices in environmental governance.
Water Management in Mining: A Strategic Challenge
Water resource management in mining remains one of the sector’s most critical challenges. According to JΓΊlio Nery, Director of Mining Affairs at IBRAM, sharing technical knowledge and successful experiences plays a key role in advancing the industry:
βTechnical knowledge is essential to our work, but understanding real-world projects and successful water management practices can accelerate progress and drive meaningful improvements in mining,β he stated.
Case Studies and Digital Solutions for Water Governance
The workshop featured practical examples and tools that demonstrated how integrated environmental and hydrogeological data can support more effective operational water governance in mining:
Celson Borges and Rayssa Andrade, from CBMM, presented a case study on integrated environmental and hydrogeological data management.
Matheus Serri, from Gerdau, shared the company’s Adaptive Water Resources Management Plan, a strategic governance tool used to guide water planning and monitoring.
Carolina Tonani and JessΓ© Caitano, from IEMA β State Institute for Environment and Water Resources, showcased innovative approaches for monitoring environmental compliance indicators.
Key topics included operational water balance modeling, predictive scenario analysis, groundwater quality assessment, and the use of environmental software to support regulatory compliance and informed decision-making.
Water Services Strengthens Its Role in Sustainable Water Management Solutions
For Nilson Guiguer, CEO of Water Services and Technologies, the event reinforces the company’s mission to advance sustainable mining practices through technology and knowledge sharing:
