WST presents advanced studies in hydrogeological modeling at FEFLOW IUC 2026

Water Services and Technologies (WST) participated in the FEFLOW International User Conference 2026, held from September 29 to October 2 in Montreal, Canada. Organized by DHI Water & Environment, the conference brought together the international community of FEFLOW users to share experiences, applications, and advances related to groundwater modeling and other subsurface processes.

André Oliveira presented the paper “Hybrid 3D Mesh Generation for Geotechnical Applications in an Open-Pit Mine Using Multi-Temporal Topographic Surfaces.” The study was authored by Celina Magalhães and proposes a workflow for generating a hybrid 3D mesh by combining structured and unstructured elements.

The paper “Monitoring Network Optimization for Uncertainty Reduction Using Multi-Objective Optimization with PEST++ MOU,” authored by Matheus Lopes de Jesus, was presented by him and Mauro Prado. The study addresses the optimization of hydrogeological monitoring networks through an integrated workflow between FEFLOW and PEST++, simultaneously evaluating the reduction of predictive uncertainty and the number of monitoring points.

“Attending the FEFLOW Conference was an important opportunity to closely follow international developments and, at the same time, assess the technical soundness of the solutions we have been applying in our projects. It became clear that at WST we have been conducting our work in accordance with global best practices, while also innovating with certain approaches that are not yet widely adopted in the industry. This exchange broadens our horizons, brings new perspectives to modeling, and reinforces the importance of participating in technical forums like this one, sharing experiences and keeping abreast of developments in the field.” — Mauro Prado, Director na WST

For WST, participating in these technical forums also allows the company to discuss methods and applications with the international community, bringing new perspectives to challenges that require increasingly consistent representations of complex hydrogeological systems and an explicit understanding of the uncertainties involved in the analyses.
