Water Services and Technologies has been chosen to provide product and training solutions for yet another demand from the Geological Survey of Brazil (SGB/CPRM).
Since 2009, the agency has been responsible for recovering environmental liabilities from more than a thousand hectares of areas degraded by coal mining belonging to the bankrupt or insolvent companies – Carboníferas CBCA and Treviso, covering the hydrographic basins of the Araranguá, Tubarão and Urussanga rivers, in the state of Santa Catarina.
Based on the need to better manage and interpret the data involved in the recovery of degraded areas, the SGB needed to look for solutions and technologies, as well as training for the team to operate these tools that will provide effective support for the studies.
Among the solutions offered by Water Services and Technologies are the software packages Hydro GeoAnalyst for environmental data management, AquaChem for hydrochemical data analysis and AquiferTest for hydrogeological test analysis. These solutions are developed by the Canadian company Waterloo Hydrogeologic, which specializes in hydrogeological solutions and is officially represented in Brazil by Water Services and Technologies.
In addition, to enhance the usability of the tools, Water Services and Technologies offered training to SGB employees at the Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul and Criciúma, Santa Catarina units.
“Generating, organizing and interpreting data was a complex challenge for the SGB, as we have a long history of water resource monitoring data. With the training offered by Water Services and Technologies, we will be able to effectively manage the information in order to obtain real solutions for the project,” explains Guilherme Troian, a geologist at SGB – Serviço Geológico do Brasil.

Environmental restoration initiatives improve the quality of life of residents and contribute significantly to the region’s development.
