Water Services and Technologies is training the geotechnical team at the Advanced Dam Solutions Center (Ceasb) of the Itaipu Technology Park, based in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná. The training sessions are based on advanced modeling applied to dams using FEFLOW.
Customized training, such as that offered to Ceasb, represents a type of training offered by Water Services and Technologies focused on meeting the specific needs demanded by clients.
Geotechnical engineer and coordinator of the modeling area, Karen Ninanya, is responsible for the customized knowledge trail offered to Ceasb. She points out that the project is divided into two phases, the first of which was a meeting held in August, when wide-ranging issues related to the topic were addressed.
“We had the opportunity to offer personalized and applied training in dam flow modeling, starting with the construction of an unstructured mesh, integrations with software for parameterizing geological units, calibration criteria and even the optimization of results with FEPEST,” she says.
Karen points out that the first agenda also included issues such as lowering simulations considering the different systems used in this type of structure.
The next step will be an assisted operation involving the same team of professionals, scheduled for September.
“This will be a very important moment, when we will offer customizable solutions, thinking about our client’s demands and needs,” she says.
Karen points out that the understanding of hydrogeological behavior in dams is constantly growing both in Brazil and around the world.
“This is one of the operations that Water Services and Technologies has mastered and which is a benchmark, so it’s important to point out that in addition to established courses, we have the know-how to offer training according to specific and particular needs in numerous segments,” she says.
